I joined in '66,Boot at PISC, ITR CamLej, NC, ScholsCo, Marine Barracks, NorVa, trained as a telegrapher/Radio operator and was assigned to 8" HowBtry, 2d Field ArtyGrp, and trained as FO, went down south in 67, assigned to SU#1, 1st ANGLICO, became membr of ground tms in II Corps, 1stFldForces. While based in Nha Trang worked with USA, CAV, 5SF, CIDG, and ROK (White Horse)units: Ops in Phan Thiet(PT), the Dong Bo mountains north of Cam Rhan(CR), and Ninh Hoa. After Tet '68 I was transferred to Phan Thiet, 3/506/101. During this time I became an AO as well as NGF Spotter, handled allied arty missions and used some USAF and Nav/MC as FAC. Did some ops in PT, Song Mao, and Phan Rang(PR)(Ops Rose I and II). Last part of '68 was stationed as a one man tm with MACV, Phan Rang, providing supt for ARVN, RF/PF, 101 and once in a great while, some of those strange Navy fellows came to work with the NILO. December I took basket leave, came home, got engaged, went back and was assigned to Qui Nhon(QN) and attached to ROK Tiger Div North of QN. Spring I was reassigned back down to PT and 101; worked with 101, MACV, 44ARVN, RF/PF, and supported C/75 occassionaly. Task Force South moved into PT toward the middle of the summer and things really began to jump. During my tour made 3 convoys; 23 CbtAslt, UH-1; 1 clandestine Amphib Landing from VN Junk Force; 156 Strike/Flight missions, O-1A, O-1E, O-2, LOH, UH-1, USA, USAF, and ROKA; 1 'Sniffer Mission', UH-1.
Rotated back in October, became a Recruiter, in '73, back to Okinawa, L/4/12. Reassigned to 2/12 NGF in Feb'74; Floated with 3/9, Camp Fuji and PI(NGF School); 2/9 for Opn Kangaroo I in Aus as TskFrc NGF Chief; 1/9, Camp Fuji, PI(qualifying destroyers), Camp Fuji, PI(combined Ops w/ B and C/1/9 and A/1/4), Hong Kong, Korea for combined ops w/ ROKMC Blue Dragons; Okinawa w/ 2/12, Regimental NGF Chief for combined 3rMarDiv TacTest, then statesside. DI at PI '75-'77, assigned to supplemental Recruiting Duty. Inspector-Instructor Stf 4th/3rd ANGLICO, W Palm Bch, Fla. Jump Scol, RappelMstr Crs at Camp McCall, JmpMstr Crs at 2dForceRecon, '77 thru '81. Engineer Supt Co, 3rd CmbtEngs/3rdMarDiv, '81 thru '82. MCSSS, 1stSgt Supply School Co, Camp Johnson, CamLeg, NC.,attened SNCO Advanced Crs, Quantico, Va.; '85 Transferred to Inspector-Instructor Staff to start Co E/4ReconBn, 4thMarDiv, Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, AK.. Selected for Sergeant Major in '86, promoted '87, Retired Nov '88. Taught NJROTC Anchorage, AK until 1991. Got sick, moved to the toolies until Apr '06. Founded "Archaeology Today, LLC (np)", which coordinates investigative projects of historic and pre-historic resources (before they all become parking lots or sub-divisions).
